How to do the things you say you want to do.

Hello Reader,

Okay, so this week has felt rough.

As spring get’s closer, my social life is picking up, and as a raver, that means weekends with late nights and very little sleep. It also includes lots of time around other people - which can be somewhat draining for an introvert like me if I’m not careful.

What this requires of me is that I take extra care of myself. I spend extra time focusing on adequate nutrition - getting enough protein and carbs to support my new activity levels. I also roll out my body, stretch, and prepare for all-night dancing sessions. And I give myself a little extra grace on the days after I have a night without sleep. I might be more on edge, more irritable, and easily annoyed. Having the awareness to know that this might be the case makes it so much easier for me to show up in my relationships and for my work. I know if I’m upset - it’s not for any real reason other than that I’m tired. Regulating my emotions while running on fumes comes from practice and a deep understanding of my body’s needs.

I talk about awareness a lot because I truly believe that it is the key to getting you to your body change goals, or any goal for that matter. Knowing what you want, knowing what you need to get there, and then being able to respond to the chaos that the world throws at you along the way - is half the battle.

The other half is taking ownership of your choices and taking massive action.

Having more information is not implementation. Understanding the reasons why you should do certain behaviors does not lead to action. It is only when you actually do the thing that you can grow and make progress.

A lot of us get lost in busy work. We track our food, check our weight, count our steps, and pay attention to how many calories we burn. But none of that data matters if you’re not doing the actual work. You cannot make progress thinking about action.

Trust me; I’ve tried.

I’ve played the games watching YouTube videos about eating healthier or workout reels to give me ideas for what to do. I know how easy it is to get lost on social media, searching for the motivation to get going.

But I also know what it looks like when Self-sabotage rears it’s ugly head, and you throw in the towel before you even start.

Getting yourself to do the thing is not as easy as just doing it.

We are so great at playing mind games with ourselves.

Here are a few ways that you can make it easier for yourself to do the thing:

  • Set smaller goals. And celebrate each win. Create a reward system.
  • Create a task list, so you know exactly what needs to be done.
  • Involve others - recruit friends and family or hire a coach.
  • Give yourself permission to delegate or get help.
  • Take the pressure off by remembering the benefits you want to get out of the action instead of feeling like you “have to” or “should” do the thing.
  • Change up your routine. Ask yourself how you can do this in a way that works for you and is exciting. Turn it into a game.
  • Visualize the result.
  • Identify your productive time - when do you have the most energy to get things done?
  • Start your day with success - start with a successful simple task that makes you believe progress is possible.

Let me know how it goes!

Until next time,

Morgan

P.S. I want to let you know that I’ve had a few exclusive spots open in my 1:1 Coaching, and I’m only looking for 5 -7 people to fill out my roster. If you’re ready to stop the self-sabotage and finally do the thing, reply to this email with the word “Ready” (or shoot me a DM on socials) so I can give you all the details!

I run the Customer Service side of things for my Business Coach, and we are in launch mode this week! She is much farther along in her business journey than I am, and it is exciting to see what is possible with only a small team of 6. I've been busy answering tons of emails this week and have been tied to my computer more than I would like. Who am I kidding? I spend WAY too much time working on my computer anyway. This is the exact reason I am such a stickler when it comes to sticking to your...

Writing in today to talk about how excited I am about the two modules I got finished yesterday for my upcoming course. It’s going to be a good one! It’s for the person who struggles to make time for breakfast - they know they “should” be having breakfast and they probably “should” be having something other than a pastry or granola bar — but no matter how much they want to, they just can’t seem to make this change. I’m excited because it’s not just another protein cheatsheet with a list of...

Heya I missed two of my morning walks this week - because I had made other plans to walk later in the day. One of those days I did actually get in an afternoon walk because I walked to the movies. But the other day, my friend canceled, and instead of going for an evening walk on my own, I just didn’t move my body that day. Looking back, I’m frustrated with myself that I broke that promise. For me, morning walks are a promise to myself that I will show up and take this time to move my body,...
